About The PSO of Florida

About the Patient Safety Organization of Florida (PSOFlorida)

The Florida Hospital Association (FHA) and the South Florida Hospital & Healthcare Association (SFHHA) have partnered to develop the Patient Safety Organization of Florida (PSOFlorida) under the authority of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 (PSQIA)

The PSQIA:

  • Encourages the development of Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs)—organizations that can work with healthcare providers to identify, analyze, and reduce the risks and hazards associated with patient care.
  • Fosters a culture of safety by establishing strong federal confidentiality and privilege protections for information assembled and developed by healthcare facilities, physicians, and other clinicians for deliberations and analyses regarding quality and safety.
  • Accelerates the speed with which solutions can be identified for the risks and hazards associated with patient care by facilitating the aggregation of a sufficient number of events in a protected legal environment.

PSOFlorida was established to assist hospitals, health systems, physicians, and other healthcare providers in providing the safest, highest quality of care to their patients.  Its mission is to improve the safety and quality of healthcare delivery through the application of science and implementation of best-practice evidence with the objective of preventing patient injury or death.

PSOFlorida has been listed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as a qualified patient safety organization.  PSOFlorida is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation and a component of the FHA and the SFHHA.
